Book a health check at Anglim Private Health

Private GP in a consultation

Anglim Private Health is a private GP surgery in Bury St Edmunds.  We aim to make it convenient and simple to organise high quality GP care.

What is a health check?

A health check is a review of your entire health with a GP.  It normally involves a discussion about your health problems, a detailed examination, blood tests and perhaps other tests and then a feedback session where results and recommendations can be discussed.  The range of checks available can vary and at Anglim Private Health we can offer simple or very detailed health checks.

How long does a health check take?

There first appointment is normally 30-60 minutes with a GP. This is enough time to discuss your background in detail, conduct a detailed examination and take appropriate blood tests.  A second appointment, normally a week or two later, lasts about 30 minutes and involves feedback, setting out health priorities going forward and some short term and long term plans to improve health.

Do I get a report?

After your second appointment you will get a written report with a summary of the findings, all the blood test results and a clear list of health recommendations to take forward.

What tests are done?

The discussion, examination and blood tests include:

  • A detailed review of your medical history
  • A review of current medical symptoms and a systems review to look for other important symptoms
  • A review of your current medications
  • A review of your mental health including memory if appropriate
  • Assessment of stress and your social environment
  • A thorough examination including height, weight, blood pressure and examinations of the heart, lungs, abdomen, musculoskeletal system and nervous system.
  • Blood tests which can vary depending on your preferences and requirements, but normally include an assessment of cardiac risk, thyroid, bone health, kidney health, liver health, anaemia, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

There is also the option to add our Trucheck cancer screening blood test. This test is expensive but can pick up cancers early, including those hard to detect cancers like pancreas and ovarian cancer. Please contact us to find out more about Trucheck.  You can also have Trucheck by itself.  You can read more about Trucheck here.

Is organising a health check with Anglim Private Health better than other health checks?

Many commercial health checks are based primarily around the blood tests, not individualised for patients and while they might provide flashy laminated reports they often lack the ability to treat the problems they identify.  At Anglim Private Health we aim to personalise each and every appointment, meaning your health check will be suitable for your needs.  If there are extra tests which would be really important to your situation, we will suggest them to you and adjust the health check accordingly.  And if there are extra blood tests you really want, but they are not part of the main health check packages, we can add them on.  The health recommendations will be based on your own health goals, not just a formulaic response to your blood tests.  And we can take in to account any significant background information when deciding on health recommendations.

One of the biggest differences is that many health check companies are not able to provide you with the treatment you need after a health check.  They will refer you back to your NHS.

At Anglim Private Health if adjustments of medication or further tests are required we will be happy to prescribe those medications and organise those tests.  We will follow that up (with your consent) with a letter to your NHS GP summarising our changes and recommending they adjust their repeat medications accordingly.  We can also, if requested, discuss what other tests or treatments might be available through the private sector, which may not be available through the NHS and make referrals to specialists if needed.

Are there any extra benefits?

All new patients attending for a health check are give one month free Anglim Private Health membership.  Anglim Private Health members are entitled to unlimited face to face GP appointments, the ability to contact the GP between appointments by email or WhatsApp,  the ability to see the same GP every time and a guarantee of appointment availability on our operating days.  The one month free membership allows us to follow up on the health recommendations and any new treatments.  You can also book an appointment if any new issues arise during that month.  There is no obligation to continue membership after your free month, but we will be happy to discuss that with you further if you want to continue as a member.
