But weight loss injections are available today from Anglim Private Health
There were a lot of news articles this week suggesting that your NHS GP is now able to provide Mounjaro and Wegovy weight loss injections. Many individuals trying to access these injections, particularly in Suffolk, are finding it is a lot more difficult than they had hoped.
Nationally, the roll out of these treatments for individuals meeting certain criteria has been approved. But each local area has to decide how best to spend local funding meaning different areas are providing this service in different ways. Our area is Suffolk and North East Essex. They have generated a system to start the process of rolling out these medications, but it is far from simple or easy to access. GPs are not yet able to refer in to the new service. Even when they have been given the green light, it will be restricted to the most significantly affected patients. The system has a build in assessment period of at least 6-12 months, which means there will be a significant wait before anyone is actually provided with the weight loss injections through the new service.
How can Anglim Private Health help?
As a private GP surgery, we are able to assess and treat people with Mounjaro or Wegovy to help them lose weight. I’m worried about the cost?
It is correct that these medications are not cheap and require people to really want to invest in their health. Our system includes expert medical, nutrition and exercise advice, together with the medication. It starts from £250-300 per month and can be higher if you want a higher number of nutrition or personal training sessions.
Can anyone have the injections?
Weight loss medication is for those who are significantly overweight and should not be considered lightly. There are certain criteria and we will only provide treatment to those who meet the criteria. This is not for someone who wants to lose a few pounds for the summer, but if you have a BMI >30, or >27 with weight related medical problems (or from certain ethnicities) you may be eligible for the treatment.
We can also assess and manage patients for weight loss treatments if they have a range of medical problems. By having a face to face consultation with your prescribing GP, we can also manage important interactions with other medications, like HRT or the contraceptive pill.
