Anglim Private Health is a private GP surgery in Bury St Edmunds.
We are available for a broad range of medicals or medical tests. If you have a requirement for a medical please feel free to give us a call and we can organise it for you.
What type of medicals are you able to do?
Almost any type of medical. We can perform medicals for driving/ HGVs, travel abroad/ visas, for a sporting activity or any other reason. We commonly do medicals for motorsports and horse riding.
Should I not go to my NHS GP?
You are certainly able to ask your NHS GP to organise your medical. They will charge you in a similar way to our organisation because it is considered private work outside their NHS contract. It is entirely appropriate that an NHS GP prioritises their core NHS service over private work, meaning medicals are often treated as less of a priority. Some NHS practices refuse to do them all together. Using our service we can accommodate medicals quickly, often on the same or very next day.
Will a private GP surgery charge a lot more for a medical?
Each practice is able to set their own prices for medicals, our research shows that we are priced at a similar level to local NHS practices.
How much will the medical cost?
It can vary depending on the type of medical required. We charge £140 for a standard motorsport, jockey or HGV medical. We are not registered for VAT. If you would like a price for any other medical please give us a call, or better still email a copy of the medical form to us on doctors@anglimhealth.co.uk and we can give you an accurate price. Medicals generally cost a little more if they require an opinion, rather than just gathering information. They will also cost more if an ECG, blood test , x-ray, spirometry or any other test is required as part of the medical.
Can you perform blood tests or other tests required in a medical?
Yes. We are registered with two of the biggest pathology lab networks and between them can organise almost any blood test required. If your medical requires an x-ray or scan we can organise that via referral to a local private hospital or scanning service.
Are there any medicals you cannot do?
We cannot do medicals for professional sportspeople, even if the medical is not related to the same sporting activity. We cannot perform medicals for patients of Hadleigh Boxford Group Practice. Some medicals specify that your own regular NHS GP completes the medical form. We can only do firearms/ shotgun medicals if you are able to provide a complete and full medical record from your NHS GP. We can request that for you, but they will take some time and charge for providing the medical record.
